The Sporades islands consist of four islands (Skopelos, Skiathos, Alonissos and Skyros) that are grouped together near the Euboean Coast of the Aegean Sea. In fact, there are a lot of small islands and rocky outcroppings around the four main islands which number more than 700, of which only 9 are inhabited.

The islands are amongst the greenest areas in the Med with nearly three quarters of their grounds being covered by the Mediterranean pine. Many of the beaches in the Sporades have been awarded the European Blue Flag, which confirm they are amongst the cleanest waters and beaches in Europe. It is also one of the best sailing areas in the Aegean, with many protected coves and many islets to get away from it all!

HOLLYWOOD COMES TO SKOPELOS!
By now, most have heard about the filming of the major motion picture ‘Mamma Mia!’ on the island of Skopelos. A hit on both Broadway and the London stage, the film adaptation was shot on Skopelos late last summer. With some of the most respected and well-known stars such as Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth in combination with the stunning scenery of Skopelos Island’s most beautiful beach locations, the film is has become a Hollywood success in its first months in the cinema.

The film was released world-wide in July ’08 and Skopelos was able to secure its own advance copy for its premiere on the 3rd of July. The showing was a rounding success and at the after party everyone was buzzing with excitement about this funny, warm, ‘feel-good film’. The film will be shown nightly throughout the summer at the Odeon outdoor theatre in Skopelos Town.
